Frequently asked
The ten questions, answered straight.
Timelines, money, fit, fabric and the craft itself — the same answers we give across the counter at the studio, written down.
The craft
Is aari work the same as maggam work?
Yes — same craft, different name. Aari is the hooked needle; maggam is the wooden frame the fabric is stretched on, and in Tamil Nadu and Andhra the frame gave the craft its name. Anyone quoting you separately for “aari” and “maggam” is quoting the same thing twice.
Will the colour look exactly like the photo?
Not exactly. Silk, velvet and zari read differently under studio light, daylight and phone screens, and stone and thread lots vary slightly between batches. We shoot in natural light and will WhatsApp you a daylight photo of the actual fabric and thread before we start.
Ordering
Are your blouses ready-made or made to order?
Almost everything is made to order: we cut, stitch and embroider against your measurements after you confirm. A small number of studio-stock pieces in standard sizes ship in 2–4 days; those carry a “Ready to ship” badge, and the shop's availability filter lists every one of them.
Can I send my own saree or blouse fabric?
Yes, and most bridal clients do, so the blouse matches the saree exactly. Drop it at the T. Nagar studio or courier it to us, and we quote handwork and tailoring only, without the fabric charge. For a full-sleeve blouse send at least 1 metre — 0.8 m is not enough once we allow for the frame margin.
Timelines
How long does a blouse take?
Normal work 7–10 working days, medium 15–21, heavy 25–35 and bridal 35–45. Between October–February and April–June every frame in Chennai is booked, so add roughly a week. For a wedding, place the order 8–10 weeks ahead.
Fit
What if the fit is wrong?
One free alteration within 15 days of delivery for anything on our side — seam, dart, sleeve or length. Alterations because measurements changed, or because numbers were sent instead of a sample blouse, are chargeable at ₹300–800 depending on the work. Once a blouse is cut, a neckline or back cannot be made shallower, and a heavily embroidered panel cannot be let out.
Customization
Can you recreate a design I saw on Instagram or Pinterest?
In most cases yes, and it is how a lot of our work starts. Send clear front and back photos and we will tell you honestly what is achievable at your budget, what has to change, and what it will cost. We will adapt a designer's look to your saree and your frame, but we do not pass off a copy as the original label's work.
Payment
How does payment work, and can I cancel?
Nothing is charged on this website. We confirm on WhatsApp that the work is possible and give you the exact delivery date; the full amount is paid after that, and it books your frame and buys the material. You can cancel with a full refund until we cut the fabric. Once cutting or embroidery has begun it is not refundable, because the material and the frame days are already consumed.
Delivery
Do you ship outside Chennai?
Yes — insured courier across India, usually 3–5 days after dispatch, charged at actuals. We do not currently ship internationally. Within Chennai you can collect from the T. Nagar studio, and we prefer a studio fitting for heavy bridal orders.
Care
Will the stones and zardozi come off?
Handwork is stitched, not glued, so it holds well with normal wear — but zardozi wire, kundan settings and cutdana are still fragile, and a hard knock or a pulled thread can loosen a stone. It happens occasionally even on well-made pieces. Bring it back within six months and we re-fix it free; after that we repair at a nominal charge.
Not answered here?
Ask a person, not a page.
WhatsApp is fastest — the designer replies within one working day, usually much sooner. Or call, or walk into the studio.
