Terms of service

Short version: we quote in writing before any money moves, we hold the dates and prices we put in that quote, and hand embroidery comes with two honest caveats — handmade variance and screen-versus-fabric colour — that you accept when you order.

Who you are dealing with

Sridevi Embroidery Works, a hand-embroidery studio at T. Nagar, Chennai, Tamil Nadu 600017, India. Ordering on this site, on WhatsApp or at the studio forms an agreement under these terms and the linked policies — governed by Indian law, with courts in Chennai holding jurisdiction.

Quotes, prices and dates

  • Prices shown on the site are real and inclusive of applicable GST. A made-to-order piece is confirmed by a written quote on WhatsApp stating the price, what it covers (handwork, fabric, tailoring), and the in-hand date. That quote is the contract; if we quoted it, we hold it.
  • Timelines are quoted in working days and exclude courier transit. The clock starts when your payment is received, not when you enquire.
  • Quotes stay valid for 14 days. Material prices move; after 14 days we re-confirm before you pay rather than quietly charging more.
  • If we will miss a quoted date, you hear it from us first, with a new date in writing and the choice to cancel for a full refund of everything paid — whatever stage the work is at.

Handmade variance — accepted at order

Every piece is worked by hand on the frame, by one artisan, over days or weeks. Slight irregularities — a motif fractionally off its mirror image, small variations in stitch density or stone placement, a finished piece differing in small ways from the reference photo — are the nature of the craft, not defects, and are not grounds for rejection or refund. A machine could give you perfect symmetry; it could not give you this work. What you can rely on: the piece will match the written brief — neckline, back, sleeve, coverage, materials, colour scheme — and if it doesn't, that is our error and we fix or remake it at our cost.

Colour difference — accepted at order

Screen colours differ from real fabric. Silk, velvet and zari read differently under studio light, daylight and a phone screen, and thread and stone lots vary slightly between batches. Our safeguard is procedural, not photographic: before work starts we send a daylight photo of the actual fabric and thread for your approval, and that approved photo — not the product image or your reference — is the colour standard the finished piece is judged against. A shade difference between the website image and the delivered piece, where the piece matches the approved daylight photo, is not a defect.

Recreating saved designs

When you send a design from Instagram, Pinterest or elsewhere, we recreate the craft — motif, coverage, technique — adapted to your fabric, measurements and budget. Where a reference is a named designer's signature piece, we quote an adaptation, not a counterfeit, and we say so in writing. You confirm you have the right to share any photo you upload; photos are handled as promised in the Privacy policy.

Your responsibilities

  • Measurements you submit are taken as accurate. Alterations caused by wrong numbers are chargeable (₹300–800); couriering us a blouse that fits is the safer path and we'll always say so.
  • Fabric you send is inspected on arrival; if it is too thin or short for the brief we tell you before cutting. Until then it remains yours and is stored with care.
  • Keep your WhatsApp reachable during an order — approvals (fabric photo, progress photos) sit on your reply, and waiting days pause the working-day clock.

Payments, cancellation, delivery, care

Paying in full at confirmation and the full-refund-before-cutting rule are in Payments & cancellations. Courier, insurance and the India-only rule are in Shipping & delivery. The 15-day free alteration and 6-month stone re-fix are in Returns & alterations. Care instructions ship with every piece and live at /care; damage from washing, ironing over work or glue repairs is outside the alteration and re-fix promises.

Liability & content

Our liability on any order is capped at the amount you paid for it — met by repair, remake or refund as the situation warrants. Product photography, artwork and text on this site are ours; designs worked for you are yours to wear and photograph as you please.
